Heading West! New Album Progress!

Well....

I've been working in fits and starts on this new album.  It's been a slooooow process of trying to figure out how to collaborate with multiple talents from across the country, deciding which songs to put in the album, trying to figure out why and what for, and how I want it to sound.  So many decisions!

decisions.gif

But!

I'm really excited to be heading out to California for a week this month, to get some heavy editing and mixing done with Danny Cantrell.  We'll be honing in on the sound, making some fun decisions, and working on how to polish these tracks into shiny beautiful songs for you.

AND...

I'm funding this thing all on my own.  Which makes me really happy, because it means that I'm in a position to do so. And I have some really amazing friends and family doing me some really big favors. But here's the thing: It would be super duper cool if you wanted to help out too.  You can do that by pre-ordering the album, or just by donating a little bit to the cause because the music biz is weird and crazy, and this is what we have to do when we want to make an album.

I'm not doing a Go Fund Me, or Kickstarter for this.  I'm doing direct patron to artist exchange here.  Please donate on PayPal directly to me: hoolieta@gmail.com.  You can preorder the album for $10.  I'm expecting to do a small batch of vinyl prints, so if you'd like it on vinyl, it's $25.  If I don't get enough interest for vinyl, I'll be printing a t-shirt and will send that to you, along with the digital album, once it's finished.

Expected release: June 2018!

Eternally grateful for your continued support!

Peace and love,

Juliet

Hitting the Road -- 2017 West Coast Tour!

I'm making my final preparations before I get on a plane and head west on July 5th.

I'll be flying to Santa Fe, NM, to hang out with Dan while he works on video and projection design for Santa Fe Opera.  Lucky me!

Then I'll hop on a plane to L.A., get me some wheels, and make my way north, playing L.A., Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Monterey.

I'll be road tripping most of July and August, peppering in gigs here and there.  Check out my events page to see where I'll be.  I hope to see some of you along the way!

Can't wait for an epic California summer.

I'm still working on new tracks, and will have a single release ready for y'all when I hit the road. Keep your eyes peeled!

love and light,

Juliet

Piano Tracking at Acme Hall Studios

Last Friday I spent a couple of hours at Acme Hall Studios tracking some piano parts for the album.  One of the many puzzle pieces in this project!

Next month, I will be doing some vocal tracking and other various bits in Brooklyn.  In February, I head to Oakland, CA to get some percussion and flute tracking done.  I love that this is coming together from many different sources, and am excited to see how it all pieces together!

Check out this video I made with Daniel Vatsky.  And don't forget that you can pre-order the album today!  Contact me and I can walk you through your PayPal payment.

New album in the works!

Hello friends near and far!

It's been almost four years since I released Whiskey and Jellybeans in June of 2013.

Making that record was a wonderful experience, with a steep learning curve.  It was delightfully challenging. I enjoyed every aspect of the project from writing parts for cello and violin, creating rich vocal harmonies, collaborating with great musicians, to editing, mixing, and designing album art, to selling CDs at my shows and mailing thank you notes to my supporters. Don Godwin and I worked hard on making that record sound good, and I was thrilled to be able to share it with you, my community.

I'm excited to let you know that I am in the planning stages of recording my next album!

I'm working closely with Dan Cantrell, and Michael Chambers. Two very gifted musicians, composers, and engineers. This will be a bicoastal collaboration, and I plan to include musicians from New York and the Bay Area on this new 11 track album.

Living in New York for the last 5 years has been an education in persistence, creative exploration, community building, and consistency. I have been sitting on a wealth of new material, some of which I have been performing live for over a year. It's time to make a new record!

After much thought, I've decided that the best way to raise funds for this endeavor is to go right to the source: YOU!

Instead of using a fundraising platform, I'm offering you the chance to pre-order my album directly from the artist: ME!

Your preorder can be paid for directly to me through PayPal.

If you'd like, you can make a larger contribution to help cover costs such as studio time, musicians, rehearsals, mixing, mastering, the cost of printing records, and funds for touring in the Summer of 2017.

Preorder costs for the digital album are $10. If you'd like a copy of the album on vinyl pre-order is $25. You can make your donation through PayPalhoolieta@gmail.com

This album will feature the talents of:

Dan Cantrell

Michael Chambers

Rebecca Kleinmann

Aharon Wheels-Bolsta

and others!

I hope you'll join me in the creation of this next sonic endeavor/adventure.  I'm really looking forward to sharing it with you!

Love and Light,

Juliet

Summer lovin'

Whew!  Summer is flying by!  I just finished four wonderful weeks working with the Teaching Artists at BAM's Summer workshop programs for youth.  I learned so much, and had a wonderful opportunity to teach a songwriting unit to 11-15 year olds in a Creative Writing Workshop, as a summer assistant teacher...

Updates!

Hey! It's been a while.

Summer is imminent, and I've cooked up a nice little jaunt to the West Coast this coming August.  I'll be playing a handful of shows while I'm in Portland, OR and the Bay Area.  In the meantime, I've booked a sweet little gig with the Hoover Dam Collective in June, playing for their Porch Stomp Festival out on Governor's Island.  It promises to be a great weekend!

My life has been full and busy with lots of teaching, planning a move (staying in my sweet Brooklyn neighborhood, but moving in with my sweetie!), and trying to keep some creative momentum going collaborating here and there with friends.  It's been really fun co-writing with my buddy Michael Chambers (Mirabella).  We are hoping to put out a couple of tracks in the coming months.

In the meantime, I'm available for lessons, and will be working with BAM this July as an assistant teacher for their creative workshops for youth.  I'm looking forward to being part of that process and to help facilitate creative expression for young people.

Love and light,

Juliet

Heading West!

It's been a busy push to the end of the school year, and the beginning of Summer, but it's here at last!

I fly home this Wednesday to spend time with family, friends, and colleagues.  It is sucha treat to be able to spend time in California and Oregon, soaking up the trees, rivers, beaches, and sunshine.  I always return to New York refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the next year's projects!

I'll do my best to keep you updated while I'm on the road.  Hope to see you at one of my shows in June!

peace, love, light,

Juliet
